Might be me being way too picky but I figure if I don't really love the look of it, I won't really love the sounds and feel and I'll end up knocking it on. I think I'm going to pass though and hold out for a 50s model. Just got an email back from New Kings Road and yep, it's a thinline. Big mistake, the 125T is lighter and sounds more musical even when played by a cowboy chord fumbler like me.ītw, Guncotton has a very nice 61 Epi Sorento with bigsby trem. I had a beat up 59 a couple of years ago and foolishly sold it for an ES-225T, thinking that the dual P90's and cutaway were the way to go. No checking to the finish and the neck is pristine. I picked up a near mint 1960 recently, it must have spent its life in the case (original). It's not a huge difference but noticeable. The '60's models have a thinner neck than the 50s. Judging by the tail shot it's a thinline model but as you say, some of the pics are confusing. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge.I can't work out from the pictures whether the New Kings Road guitar is actually a thinline or not? It's listed as an es-125, but some pictures make it look like a thinline. String action is set at 4/64" to 5/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings. The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. Setup: This instrument is strung with medium gauge nickel flatwound strings (.012-.054). As these guitars were originally shipped in flimsy softshell cases, the owner has thoughtfully provided a sturdy plush hardshell case for its protection.Ī solid player for jazz, swing or blues, the ES-125 remains by far the best value in a true vintage Gibson archtop. The handsome sunburst finish is all-original, showing the typical thumb and buckle wear of a pro-played instrument. At barely over 5lb even this guitar is happily lightweight, and nimbly balanced on the lap or the strap.
